itchy feet

So.....a few years ago in the UK during one of our scorching hot summers....no actually it wasn't hot or even warm....me and my hubby decided to see where in the world we could go....that had a good climate! That was the beginning of our dream to go walkabout....Now 2 years later we have our permanent residence visa for Australia and I am now at the planning stage of our big adventure!! So where in the world are we going...the answer...wherever we want!! I am writing this blog as much for me as anything so hopefully at some point in the future I can read this and remember it all...the planning is part of the adventure....

wan·der·lust (w n d r-l st) n. A very strong or irresistible impulse to travel .......

I have been very lucky in my life and have lived all over the world --- England, South Africa,Canada, France, Switzerland and Botswana. I travelled in my 20's after completing Uni but then settled down to a career (Special Needs teacher) and mother to my gorgeous daughter. I always planned to go back to travelling once she was independent and as she is soon to go to University the time is nearly here!!! I am also lucky enough to have a husband with a passion for travel and who will soon be (fingers crossed) a fully qualified Adult Nurse! I am hoping that a teacher and a nurse will be employable everywhere....and at some point we will get the opportunity to work with communities in less well off parts of the globe.

Early stages

So far I have raided the local library for travel books (and was spoilt with some great books on my recent birthday by my daughter too)....

This seems to be the plan so far... the following by train

LONDON
Moscow - Beijing (overland via Trans-Mongolian Express)
Beijing - Xian- Shanghai-Hong Kong
Hong-Kong - Hanoi - Saigon
Saigon - Phnom Phen - Siem Reap
Siem Reap- Bangkok
Bangkok- Chiang-mai - ........ research needed!!!
Phuket - Kuala Lumpur-
SINGAPORE

then onwards to Australia!!

We are planning to go by train for loads of reasons....1. its cheap!!! 2. My husband is a train person (not a train spotter...just an ex Britsh Rail employee) 3. The man in seat 61....the man is an inspiration and I want to be a girl who does what he does!!! If you  havent visited his website its amazing!!!  www.seat61.com I will be using his page as my starting point for all plans!
